Anglican Women’s Empowerment Working Groups



The purpose of the ‘Working Groups’ is to ensure the enactment and thecontinuance of the organization’s goals and objectives.   These ‘Working Groups’ shall be, • Funding & Development • Issues & Advocacy • Education • Public Relations • Events and • Hospitality.

Funding  & Development
It is the responsibility of the Funding & Development group to seek out internal and external opportunities to raise money for the goals and purposes of the organization.  Their duties should include:

  • To develop and coordinate funding proposals;
  • To work with the ACC UN Observer, the Episcopal Church USA (ECUSA) Women’s Ministries and other ministries to raise funds to sponsor both the ACC and the ECUSA UN delegates to the UNCSW annual meetings;
  • To help sponsor women representatives to the Anglican Communion Gathering; To help raise funds for the support staff.

Goals for 2004-2008:
1. To prepare funding proposals for Trinity Grant Foundation, Ford Foundation and the Sister Fund;
2. To raise $100,000 to help sponsor the ACC & ECUSA delegations to the UNCSW meetings in 2005 and in subsequent years;
3. Assist in fund raising to help sponsor women delegates from the Provinces to the Conference of Bishops and the Anglican Communion Gathering;
4. To raise $15,000 to hire part/time or temporary staff;

Issues & Advocacy
It is the responsibility of the Issue & Advocacy group to monitor the global issues and the documentation concerning women with respect to the BPA, CEDAW, MDG and UN Resolution #1325, and Anglican Communion theology and practices.  Their duties should include:

  • Develop informational statements about the status of women globally and internally within the Church to be shared with the Communion of Anglican women in the pews, other Church organizations, and agencies as well as for governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs);
  • Connect and develop alliances with other NGO groups and agencies to advocate and promote the AWE goals and ideals;
  • Identify and support women in leadership roles within the Church hierarchy;
  • Assist the UNCSW ACC & ECUSA delegates in developing their UN documents and outcome reports/documents.

Goals:
1. In collaboration with the Education Working Group provide/develop a ‘basic’ UN and UNCSW information packet for the delegates;
2. Disseminate and assist the delegates with information concerning the UNCSW, Beijing Platform for Action, and the ACC’s questionnaire;
3. Assist delegates with the analysis of the information.  This includes the information gathered on the ACC’s ‘Status of Women’ questionnaire for the Provinces and the Church;
4. Based on the data outcomes help develop exit strategies for improvement.

Education
It is the responsibility of the Education group to develop tools and materials that are clear and user friendly for the parishes and dioceses.  Their duties should include:

  • Evaluating, promoting, and disseminating “Best Practices” developed by other NGOs on health, gender equity, peace making, and violence against women.
  • Promote training for women for ‘Empowerment’ in leadership roles.  Facilitate building and identifying current ‘Best Practices’;
  • Promote training for women for economic empowerment;
  • Promote the formal education of both women and girls.

Goals:
1. Create a support system for the ‘grass root’ projects/programs/efforts spearheaded by the ACC & ECUSA UN delegates;
2. Develop strategies for dissemination of post UNCSW information;
3. Coordinate the sharing of educational information with the International Anglican Women’s Network (IAWN);
4. Co-ordinate the educational session for AWE meetings, (speakers, and topics.)

Public Relations
Responsibility of the Public Relations group is to coordinate and promote a uniform persona for the AWE.  Their duties should include:

  • To develop media relationships.
  • To write and/or review press releases and be the clearinghouse for all material distributed to the media.
  • To coordinate press releases, news items with the diocesan offices and website materials.
  • To be the clearinghouse for event materials, invitations, posters and brochures for uniformity and clarity.
  • Maintain and update website materials as well as maintaining a uniform presentation.

Events
The responsibility of the Events group is to develop programs/events/activities that promote the goals and ideas of the AWE.  Their duties should include:

  • Coordinate with the ACC UN Observers Office and ECUSA Women’s Ministries side events for the UNCSW;
  • Build alliances with other NGOs and co-sponsor events that promote the goals.
  • Develop a scheme that will facilitate full participation of the delegates in order to cover as many of the main and side events during the conference.

Hospitality
The responsibility of the Hospitality group is to ensure the safe passage and well being of all delegates.  Their duties should include:

  • The coordination and travel arrangements;
  • To arrange guest lodging/hotel;
  • The orientation program for the delegates, provide greeting and welcoming materials;
  • The hospitality accommodation, (a home & rest spot), between day sessions/events;
    Hospitality room space
    Centralized meeting space
    Food/collations, water, coffee, cookies, etc.;
  • The development of a ‘Buddy System’ for delegates while at UNCSW.
