What exactly do we mean when we talk about a “call”— is it like God talking to Homer Simpson out of the clouds or is it more subtle? How can we make sure it’s really God we’re hearing and not our own egos or the pressures of other forces in our lives? Once you’ve “discerned a call,” what in the world do you do next? Who should you turn to for help? Is there a clear-cut path to ordination? What if you’re not called to be a priest but are called to lay ministry? These and other questions are addressed in the following seven short essays. Some of these essays will jump way ahead of where you might be right this moment—others will be recognizable by that “been there, done that” feeling they engender. And some will cover new territory. We hope you find this section a good starting place. |
