
Robert Schneider, expert on science and creationism, receives Genesis Award
[Episcopal News Service] The Episcopal Network for Science, Technology and Faith, at its mid-April meeting, named Robert J, Schneider, professor emeritus of Berea College, as the recipient of this year's Genesis Award.Schneider was recognized for his work as lead author of A Catechism of Creation, a pioneering resource for science-based creation theology.
"Bob has always been a genial mentor in ecumenical dialogues on science, technology and faith," said Sandra Michael, chair of the Network, "especially through interpreting creationism and helping Episcopalians deal with the specious arguments of Intelligent Design."
Schneider, who co-chaired the Executive Council's Committee on Science, Technology and Faith (2003-2006), maintains an extensive website on Christianity and science. He continues to serve the church as a GOE reader, and was elected an alternate deputy to the 2009 General Convention by the Diocese of Western North Carolina. He teaches biblical literature at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
