God is a New Language

Tuesday, July 21, 2009 - Thursday, July 23, 2009
Location: Adelynrood Retreat and Conference Center, Byfield, MA
Event Description: (Tuesday dinner – Thursday lunch)

In this retreat/workshop we will explore the risks and rewards of integrating new language about God into our prayer and witness. Many of the conventional religious idioms that we have inherited have lost their power to connect us with the Holy. We need encouragement to experiment with language that promises to be more emotionally honest, passionate and authentic. Through addresses, conversation, quiet time for personal reflection, prayer, and writing, we will open ourselves to the Spirit's prompting to be more daring in the language we use with God when we pray and for God when we share our faith with others. The Rev.

Martin L. Smith is well known throughout the Episcopal Church as a teacher and writer dedicated to the exploration of contemporary spirituality with a wide variety of groups for the last thirty years. He serves as Sr. Associate Rector of St. Columba's Church, Washington, DC and continues to travel widely in his ministry as a leader of retreats and workshops.
